Ingredients

  • 1 cup barnyard millet
  • 1/2 cup moong dal (split yellow lentils)
  • 1 small potato, diced
  • 1 small carrot, diced
  • 1/2 cup peas
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 cups water
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Rinse and Soak:
    • Rinse barnyard millet and moong dal thoroughly. Soak for 30 minutes and drain.
  2. Prepare the Tempering:
    • Heat ghee or oil in a pressure cooker.
    • Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Cook the Vegetables:
    • Add diced potato, carrot, and peas. Sauté for a few minutes.
  4. Combine and Cook:
    • Add soaked millet and moong dal, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
    • Pour in 4 cups of water.
    • Close the lid and cook for 3 whistles on medium heat.
  5. Garnish and Serve:
    • Allow the pressure to release naturally.
    • Garnish with chopped cilantro.
    • Serve hot with a dollop of ghee.
