Description
"Bhook lagaye, pachan banaye" — Sparks appetite, powers digestion.
When nothing else seems to fix stubborn bloating or that lingering "no appetite" feeling, Chitrakadi Vati brings out the heavy artillery — Chitraka, one of Ayurveda's most potent digestive herbs, backed by four types of pepper working together to reignite a fire that's gone cold. Strong, warming, and effective — the formula Vaidyas reach for before starting deeper treatment, because nothing works well on a weak digestive fire.
Dosha Suitability : Balances Vata and Kapha dosha, with a heating nature that may increase Pitta
Reason to Use / How It Works
Chitraka (Plumbago zeylanica) is the backbone of this formula, valued in Ayurveda for its plumbagin content, which strongly stimulates digestive enzyme activity. It's combined with multiple forms of pepper (Maricha, Pippali, Pippalimoola, Chavya) and Panchalavana (five salts), making this one of the more heating and potent digestive formulas in the classical repertoire.
Its intensity is precisely why it's reserved for pronounced Ama and Vata-Kapha sluggishness — cases like chronic bloating, malabsorption-type Grahani (an IBS-type presentation), or low appetite that hasn't responded to gentler formulas. This same heating, Ama-clearing property is also why Chitrakadi Vati is traditionally used as a preparatory formula before Panchakarma therapies, since strong digestion is considered a prerequisite for the body to properly benefit from deeper detoxification procedures.
